Our Paving Services

With different types of pavers to choose from, we can help you transform the traditionally uninspiring aspects of your outdoor space into desirable features with our custom paving solutions.

Walkway

Walkway

From quaint to intricate, rustic to modern, we will create the perfect walkway for your yard. With a proper layout, our stunning walkways add beauty to your property and connect your home to gardens, driveways, and outdoor features.

Driveway

Driveway

Paved driveways are naturally beautiful and vibrant, making it easier to add style and elegance to a traditionally non-elegant aspect of outdoor space. Besides the added elegance our San Diego pavers installation offers, the welcoming feeling that the paved driveway creates also contributes to creating curb appeal.

For driveway paving, pavers create efficient drainage and increase traction on cold and wet days, compared to asphalt.

Patio

Patio

At Better Place Remodeling, we install patio pavers in various colors and patterns to match any outdoor living space.

Whether your theme is modern, contemporary, or ornamental, we will help you choose quality materials such as slate, flagstone, clay brick, and precast concrete to revamp your outdoor living area.

Pool Decks

Pool Decks

By combining the design versatility of borders and unique patterns of interlocking pavers, we specialize in installing pool decks. Our team customizes the design to fit your requirements, including tanning decks, multi-level areas, seating and planter walls, and more.

We recommend using interlocking and travertine pavers, which are permeable and slip-resistant, keeping the surface cool and dry. Our team also ensures that the materials complement your landscaping, creating a seamless and stunning appearance.

Choosing the Right Type of Pavers

As a professional San Diego paver installation expert, we recommend choosing the right type of pavers depending on the intended use, aesthetic, permeability, and other factors. Here are popular paver options in San Diego:

    Interlocking Pool Pavers

Interlocking pavers are paving stones or bricks with unique designs allowing them to fit together tightly without using mortar. They are almost indestructible because they form a flexible pavement system, thus avoiding serious damage.

We use them to create walkways, driveways, patios, and other outdoor surfaces.

    Concrete Pavers

Concrete pavers are the most popular paving options for driveways and pathways. They come in a wide range of colors, sizes, thicknesses, and textures, and the installation is fairly straightforward and hassle-free, given they are uniform and can easily be cut.

They are made by pouring workable concrete into molds, adding dye to improve the visual appeal or make it look like natural stones, and incorporating different textures and finishes.

    Flagstone Pavers

Thanks to their non-slip texture and surface, flagstone pavers are versatile enough for backyard landscaping as they offer sturdiness and aesthetics for outdoor living, besides being available in different colors, sizes, and shapes.

Compared to concrete pavers, flagstone pavers are uniquely shaped, thinner, and inappropriate for driveways.

Popular San Diego Pavers Installation Styles

When considering your design options for a paver project, we first consider the layout and best laying pattern that will significantly impact your outdoor space.

    • Running Bond – the pavers are laid in a straight line, and half a paver offsets each row.
    • Herringbone – characterized by laying the paver in a zig-zag pattern, typically at a 45-degree angle.
    • Basket Weave – where the pavers are set up in a criss-cross pattern, creating a woven appearance.
    • Stack Bond – we install the pavers in a straight line with no offset, creating a stacked appearance.
    • Circle – where the pavers are arranged in a circular shape, creating a focal point in the landscape.
    • Ashlar – the pavers are laid in a straight line, each row being the same size and color, creating a uniform and elegant look.

    Benefits of Pavers

Depending on the type of outdoor upgrade, the benefits of pavers far outweigh other materials in terms of design choices, durability, and strength. Learn more about why you should choose our pavers for your outdoors:

    Check

    Increased Value

Installing pavers can add value to your property. They give your outdoor space a polished and finished look, making it look more appealing to potential buyers. Pavers can also help to create an organized and well-designed outdoor space, which can be a selling point for potential buyers.

    Check

    Weather Resistant

Our paving options are weather resistant and can withstand extreme weather conditions like heavy rain, snow, and heat. They do not fade or become brittle over time, meaning they will continue to look great for years.

    Check

    Durable and Flexible

Another benefit of pavers is their strength, durability, and high load-bearing capacity. They are also flexible and can adapt to the natural movements of the ground without cracking or breaking. This makes them an ideal choice for driveways, walkways, and other areas that need to withstand heavy traffic.

    Check

    Easy to Replace

If a paver gets damaged, it is easy to replace without redoing the entire area. This makes them a cost-effective and practical choice for areas likely to experience wear and tear, such as driveways and walkways.

    Check

    Versatility

Pavers come in a wide range of colors, shapes, and sizes, which makes them a versatile option for creating a unique and personalized outdoor space. We can use them to create different patterns, and they can be mixed and matched to create a custom look.

Besides, our paving options are colorfast and will not fade over time, meaning they will maintain their vibrant color for years.

    Check

    Long-Term Cost Benefits

Pavers are a cost-effective option in the long term because they are durable, low maintenance, and easy to replace. They can also add value to your property, which can be a selling point if you decide to sell your home.

Additionally, they can reduce the risk of flooding and erosion, saving you money on repairs and maintenance over time.

Professional Pavers Installation in San Diego – A Step-by-Step Guide

When installing pavers in San Diego, we consider the layout, drainage, slope, and base preparation seriously. Our process will include:

    1 Area Preparation

Before starting the installation, we will prepare the area where we will install the pavers. This includes pre-demolition to locate all the utilities such as electric, gas, water, and other features to avoid any damage during installation.

Next, the demolition process begins, which includes removing any existing hardscaping, like concrete, asphalt, or pavers.

Once the demolition is completed, we remove any dirt or debris from the area to ensure the surface is level and remove any large rocks or debris.

2 Grading the Area and Installing the Drainage

After the area is cleared, the next step is to grade the area to ensure proper water drainage. This is critical to prevent water from pooling on the paver surface, which can cause damage and make it slippery.

Depending on your project, we may install a drainage system, such as a French drain or a catch basin, to prevent water from accumulating in low spots.

3 Filling and Compacting Class 2 Road Base

The next step is to add the Class 2 road base, a crushed rock material. This creates a stable foundation for the pavers to sit on.

The road base is spread evenly across the area and compacted using a plate compactor. We use the compactor to ensure the base is level, providing a solid foundation for the pavers.

    4 Installing Bedding Sand

Once the road base is compacted, a layer of bedding sand is added. The sand helps level out the surface and fill gaps between the road base and pavers.

The sand is spread evenly across the surface and smoothed out with a screed, a straight edge used to level the sand.

    5 Laying the Pavers

The next step is laying the pavers on the bedding sand. We can lay pavers in different patterns, including herringbone, basketweave, and running bond.

We start by laying the pavers at a fixed point, like a corner or a straight edge, then laid side-by-side, with a small gap between each paver, usually around 1/8 to 1/4 inch.

As the pavers are laid, we use a rubber mallet to tap them into place and ensure they are level.

    6 Cutting Boarder Pavers

Once the main area of the pavers is laid, we cut and install border pavers and fit them around the edges to create a finished look. We often use a wet saw for cutting pavers.

7 Adding and Compacting Joint Sand

After the pavers are all laid, the sand is swept across the surface, filling the gaps between the pavers.

Once the gaps are filled, the plate compactor compacts the surface again. The compactor helps push the sand into the gaps and ensures the pavers are tightly locked in place.

    8 Cleaning and Sealing

The final step is to clean the surface of the pavers. We use a broom to sweep off any excess sand or debris and a leaf blower to blow off any remaining dust.

Once the surface is clean and dry, we apply a sealant to protect the pavers from stains and fade due to exposure to the elements.

My wife and I hired Better Place Remodeling on May 7, 2020, and our project was completed on August 31, 2020. Evi was the first person with whom we made in-person contact, and let me tell you, he exuded nothing but professionalism, courtesy, and respect to both my wife and me! Having hired F.A.T. Construction prior under the general foreman Tony Chavez and having a VERY POOR experience with that contractor, my wife and I were very skeptical, to say the least. Evi quickly earned our trust and our business through his constant contact and updates. He always kept my wife in the loop with all major decisions during the project. Had I not continuously kept adding more to the project, Evi and his crew would have finished a lot sooner than expected. Evi even went so far as to bring us his favorite type of coffee direct from Israel as we had a good working relationship. The one time I got frustrated at the job was nothing to do with Better Place Remodeling, but rather the City of Escondido with their slow permit approval process due to COVID-19. Even though this wasn't Evi's fault, he even brought me Starbucks coffee one night and further explained the backlog of permits. I also would like to send a shout-out to Barr and to Evi's top Landscaper Herman. Barr stepped in and helped Evi with our project when Evi's plate was full. Barr also exuded the same professionalism, courtesy, and respect to both my wife and me! Herman? What can I say? The guy has landscaping skills! Let him make suggestions to you and be open-minded about them-you will not be disappointed! Thanks, Evi, Barr, and Herman for such tremendous work on our home!

      FAQs

1 How Do I Choose the Right Pavers for My Project?

At Better Place Remodeling, we assess your space and listen to your ideas to guide you through choosing the right pavers.

When choosing pavers, we consider factors such as the overall design of your outdoor space, the amount of foot traffic the area will receive, climate and soil conditions, and other individual preferences.

2 How Long Does a Paver Surface Last?

Our paver installations in San Diego are designed to last a lifetime. Besides, our paver projects are backed by our workmanship warranty.

3 Are Pavers Better Than Concrete?

Pavers and concrete are popular options for outdoor surfaces such as patios, walkways, and driveways, and each has advantages and disadvantages. However, our experts will help you select the best option for your space.

Generally, pavers offer more design flexibility and durability than concrete, but the best option will depend on your specific needs and preferences.

4 Can You Install Pavers on Sloped Terrain?

Yes, our San Diego paver installers can set pavers on sloped landscapes. We always ensure proper measures are taken during the design installation to prevent downslope movement.

5 How Do You Manage Drainage and Root Problems when Installing Pavers?

If we find any plumbing or root problems when installing or replacing your pavers, we can install new plumbing or replace broken pipes. In most cases, re-grading the area results in better drainage flow.

6 How Do I Maintain My Pavers?

Pavers require little maintenance, but keeping them clean and debris-free is important. Sweep or blow away leaves, dirt, and debris regularly. If pavers become stained, you can use mild detergent and water to clean them.
